Contracting organizations representing all personnel groups working at the University of Tampere issued a strike notice on Tuesday, 20 February, as an agreement was not reached between the negotiating parties in the collective agreement negotiations of the university sector. A strike notice has also been issued at the Tampere University of Technology, University of Helsinki, Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, University of the Arts Helsinki and University of Vaasa. Issuing a strike notice means that unless the negotiating parties reach an agreement, one-day strike may interrupt teaching, administrative work, supporting services, library services and all work falling within the scope of collective agreement, at the University on Wednesday 7 March 2018. The General collective agreement for universities is under negotiation mediated by Conciliator Janne Metsämäki.
Tamy observes the situation and informs students as the matters advance. According to Tamy’s policies, the University should be a fair, reliable and interesting employer. Previously, we have voiced concerns about, for example, the number of fixed-term contracts and the status of junior researchers. Tamy hopes that the negotiating parties reach an agreement.
